Blog Title: The
Greener World
Can you imagine our planet
without plants?
Plants are living things.
Plants give off oxygen that is needed by humans and animals in order to live.
The Amazon Rainforest in South America is known as the “lungs of the planet Earth”
because of the canopies and plants that can supply almost 75% of our oxygen.
Our planet is composed of different
varieties and kinds of plants. Fern
is one of the oldest plant. It grew during Jurassic Period and eaten by
herbivore dinosaurs, and until present time ferns are still find growing
everywhere.
Mosses
are very small green plants that grow like carpet. Mosses grow in moist
environment, near the pond, swamp, river and even on top of rocks.
Conifers are
plants that bear cones, these are pine trees. These trees are often called “evergreen
trees” because they stay green all year. The tiny leaves of pine trees
dried but new leaves will show.
Algae are
water-growing plants like seaweeds. Algae provide oxygen for sea animals and
also serve as food.
Flowering Plants are
growing everywhere. These plants produce flowers that beautify our surroundings
and attract insects for pollination.
Trivia:
Biggest flower in the world: Rafflesia-found in some forest of Asia.
Has a distinctive smell that attracts flies (smells like rotten meat).
Tallest tree in the world: The tallest trees in the world are redwoods (Sequoia
sempervirens), which tower above the ground in California.
These trees can easily reach heights of 300 feet (91 meters).
Among the
redwoods, a tree named Hyperion dwarfs them all. The tree was discovered in
2006, and is 379.7 feet (115.7 m) tall.
Plants
are very important. Plants mostly provide everything. Foods, clothing, shelter,
medicine and raw materials. Plants support lives.
Now, can we live without
plants?
